Things To Do To Make Your Home Office More Efficient

Working from home was not on the agenda for 2020, but now here you are!  This may even be your first experience working from home – with the changing workforce, here is a home improvement strategy to consider.

Things To Do To Make Your Home Office More Efficient

Imagine…now you can listen to whatever Music or Podcast you like without coworkers complaining….Here are our Top 5 Interior Design Tips to make your Home Office more comfy and efficient.

  1. Gear up with all the “Tech Toys”  curved monitors are great…dual screens even better, A wireless mouse, printer and power strip – the more outlets the better!!
  2. Personalize your space – Art, plants, music
  3. Sensory Support – (Add some task lighting and some colour and Ergonomics- consider a sit to stand desk or yoga ball chair)
  4. Take Breaks!!! Coffee walk… then provide a stat as to how often you need to rest your eyes. This is also a good opportunity to multitask and throw a few things into the laundry or Instant Pot for dinner later.
  5. Invest in apps… ZOOM for teleconferences, Slack for project management, Time tracking apps.

Location.. Location.. Location!!

Natural light is essential for an effective working environment –  following our body’s natural biological clock or circadian rhythm helps with increasing productivity and less strain on the eyes. It also saves on energy usage, the less you need your lights the more money you can save staying home rather than spending it on artificial light sources.

Screen Time

Having a larger screen or even two screens at home definitely helps in some career paths. If one is doing detail or animation style work, a large monitor helps to see all of those moving parts. While; in Information Technology (IT) having two screens for juggling tasks and spreadsheets is a huge benefit, for us here at KAID we are busy working in and out of the office. Portability, power and function in a laptop is important when on the go and we find working on a larger monitor is great for the office for viewing drawings and details up close and personal.

Invest In A Good Chair

Ergonomically speaking, an office chair is always best – but not everyone works the same. Especially if it is in your own home – a big comfy armchair with a lumbar support cushion also works!  Or consider a yoga ball and get the benefit of exercise while you work.

Keep it clean – keep it organized and you can easily work from home and accomplish your goals all from the comfort of your own home.
